We are the Chipotle employees from Augusta, Maine. After forming a union Chipotle closed our store and fired all of us.
Chipotle: Keep Augusta open and Respect the rights of employees to form a Union
Chipotle’s corporate greed and disregard for worker rights has been put on full display - instead of respecting our fundamental right to form a Union, Chipotle has chosen to close our store in Augusta, Maine.
It’s not surprising that Chipotle would attempt to blame us for the decision to close our store by citing “ongoing callouts” and “lack of availability” of staff. In reality we have put our health and safety at risk in order to keep our store open and profitable throughout a deadly pandemic.
The rest of the country is now seeing the two faces of Chipotle that workers in New York City have experienced over the past two years - a company that claims to serve “food with integrity” but has a track record of disrespecting the rights of its workers.
We see the closing of our store as a direct response to our choice to form a Union and improve our working conditions. As such, we call on Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol to:
